Gaëtan’s story
Gaëtan has followed a rich and atypical path, punctuated by changes of direction and realisations that have shaped his professional career. After passing his baccalauréat in economics at just 16, he took the traditional route and enrolled at the Faculty of Economics, where he spent two years. It wasn’t until one of his call days, during a memorable exchange with an instructor who asked him about his passions and why he had chosen this field of study, that he met an inspirational person. This person, who had succeeded in reconciling passion and work, triggered a profound reflection in him: why persist in a field that he wasn’t passionate about? A fan of manga and video games, Gaëtan realised that he wanted to pursue a career in line with his interests. So he decided to retrain in IT and enrolled on a BTS in IT Services for Organisations, enabling him to develop his skills in programming and information technology. During his BTS, he did a work placement with a small IT company specialising in support for conservatoires and music schools. During this period, he worked on the recovery and integration of data using SQL and Talend, as well as on the maintenance of applications in XUL, before taking part in the redesign of these applications in PHP.
In 2015, Gaëtan joined a company in the insurance sector, where he spent seven years. His main role consisted of overhauling a legacy application, developed in Java 6 and based on the Struts framework, used to manage optical, hearing aid, dental and clinical expenses. This project proved to be extremely formative for him, particularly because of the system’s ageing architecture and the complexity of the AS400 databases. Over the years, he acquired solid expertise in back-end development, specialising in the management of databases and calculation engines for processing out-of-pocket expenses. In 2019, the company offered its development team the opportunity to train in infrastructure to take up DevOps positions. Gaëtan decided to take up this challenge, taking on the administration of more than 800 machines, including 400 in production, and also handling system standby duties. He gained in responsibility and became a pillar on the technical and production aspects.
In 2022, Gaëtan decided to join Apside Clermont-Ferrand, a decision motivated by the desire to take on new challenges and to flourish in an environment that values team cohesion.
Why did he choose Apside?
“I was quickly won over by Apside. The human relations are soothing and the family atmosphere is very pleasant.”
Gaëtan’s missions
At Apside, Gaëtan is working on a number of large-scale projects, in particular for our client in the automotive sector. He is part of the team working on the ‘Quick Scan’ project, an innovative solution that monitors vehicle tyre wear in real time using tiles installed at fleet managers’ premises. The system is based on a sophisticated algorithm that analyses the signals sent when buses drive over the tiles, providing managers with recommendations for maximising tyre life. Gaëtan works mainly on the back-end, using technologies such as Java, Quarkus, MongoDB and SQL in a microservices environment. The agile method, with three-week sprints, enables him to flexibly manage a list of tickets distributed according to the availability and affinities of each individual.
During his inter-contract periods, he also supervised work-study students, an experience he thoroughly enjoyed. Gaëtan is very attached to the working environment and thrives at Apside, where he plays an active part in the agency’s events and is part of the cross-functional team in charge of internal projects. For him, the working environment is a key factor in his well-being, and he’s delighted to be able to work in a company where there’s a good group dynamic.
