Ewan scrum master

With a real appetite for mathematics at high school, Ewan embarked on a scientific career. He stood out for his abilities, while at the same time enjoying studying in this field, particularly algorithms. That's why, after passing his baccalauréat, Ewan decided to continue his studies with a DUT in statistics and business intelligence.

Ewan’s story

During this training, Ewan explored various concepts such as mathematics and probability, statistics processing and data analysis. On the strength of this experience, he applied his knowledge during his work placement at Génération. Ewan then continued his career with the same company as part of his professional degree, focusing particularly on IT and data management. During this work-study period, he worked with various technologies such as VBA, Access, Talend and QlikView. He continued his professional adventure with the company as a project manager in business intelligence tools. Later, he wanted to discover new professional environments and joined the teams of an ESN in Nantes, where he carried out several assignments as a software engineer, team lead and scrum master.

For personal reasons, Ewan left the Nantes region to take up residence in Tours. He joined the Apside teams as a scrum master, where he is currently working for one of our customers in the Insurance/Mutual Insurance sector.

Why did he choose Apside?

Ewan : « I had already spoken to Apside Brest at the end of my work-study placement, when they made me an offer. I turned it down, but I kept the name in the back of my mind because I’d had such good contact with the teams. I didn’t want to work for a big company any more, I wanted to work for a family-run business on a human scale. »

Ewan’s missions

In this role, Ewan alternates between business analyst and scrum master. On the analysis side, he is responsible for analysing requirements, drafting technical specifications and carrying out recipes.

As a scrum master, Ewan belongs to a tribe with several squads (around ten members per squad). In his case, Ewan has 3 squads within his tribe, i.e. around thirty people. Within his tribe, he works mainly on data for the business lines to feed the insurance section. The main technologies he uses on a daily basis are Jira, SAS, Confluence and SQL.

In addition to his technical background, Ewan’s role is more management-oriented. As a scrum master, he looks for continuous improvement, monitors tasks, prepares retrospectives and leads them, produces documentation, conducts interviews with employees, creates project monitoring boards, and so on.
Ewan is also a resourceful thinker and has demonstrated this from the moment he joined our client. He has proposed various optimisations, such as a calculation capacity for sprints, harmonisation of specifications and a dashboard on Confluence for business analysts to monitor the progress of their specifications. In addition to these tasks, Ewan also organises half-day tribe retrospectives. The aim is to gather all the information needed to improve the tribe, and then to share best practice within the customer’s DSIM (Business Information System Department).

Finally, Ewan has initiated a workshop, co-directed with Perrine. The subject is ‘ScrumCooked! Cauchemar en Dev Team’, which focuses on the relationship between a team and the customer. It will be presented at DevFest Lille 2024.
